This role is designed for a finance leader with deep, direct experience in managed care, HMO, and/or Medicaid environments who can immediately assume financial ownership of a $180M managed care portfolio.

The Director of Finance will partner closely with the VP of Finance to drive both day-to-day financial operations and long-term managed care strategy, with clear visibility and preparation for future promotion to VP of Finance. This is not a general healthcare finance role—it requires demonstrated expertise navigating the unique economics, regulatory requirements, and risk structures of managed care.

Key Responsibilities
Managed Care Financial Leadership (Primary Focus)

  • Lead financial oversight of risk-based and capitated reimbursement models, including PMPM analysis, medical cost trends, and margin optimization
  • Own financial modeling for rate-setting, contract performance, and payor negotiations
  • Analyze utilization, medical expense drivers, and administrative cost structures to inform pricing and strategic decisions
  • Ensure financial compliance with managed care and Medicaid regulatory requirements
Strategic & Operational Finance
  • Partner closely with the VP of Finance on all financial matters impacting managed care operations and growth initiatives
  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning for the managed care portfolio
  • Deliver insight-driven financial analysis to support executive decision-making and strategic planning
  • Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership
Leadership & Team Development
  • Manage and mentor a lean, high-performing two-person finance leadership team
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and execution-oriented team culture
  • Operate as a trusted thought partner within a small, senior leadership group

Required Experience & Qualifications
Managed Care Experience (Required)
  • 10+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience, with a significant portion spent in managed care, health plan, HMO, and/or Medicaid environments
  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience with:
    • Capitation and risk-based reimbursement models
    • Medical cost trend analysis
    • Managed care contract and rate modeling
    • Financial performance of Medicaid and/or HMO products
  • Applications without direct managed care finance experience will not be considered
Leadership & Technical Skills
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience
  • Strong background in healthcare finance within regulated environments
  • Advanced Excel modeling and financial analytics expertise
  • Proven ability to operate independently, exercise sound judgment, and influence senior stakeholders
Preferred Background
  • Public accounting and/or corporate healthcare finance experience
  • Experience supporting growth, scale, or increased financial complexity in managed care organizations

Education & Credentials
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (required)
  • CPA and/or Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, MS Finance) strongly preferred
