Salary Range: $150,000 – $165,000
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer
 

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and financial reporting function for a mission-driven, nonprofit organization. This role is highly hands-on and strategic, responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, managing a team, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. Nonprofit experience is required.

The ideal candidate is a strong people leader, technically sound, deadline-driven, and comfortable operating in a dynamic environment that includes ongoing systems enhancements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of 4 accounting staff, providing mentorship, coaching, and accountability
  • Maintain the General Ledger and related sub-ledgers, bank accounts, and financial records
  • Oversee:
    • Contributions processing
    • Grant distributions
    • Payroll
    • Accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Prepare and deliver monthly financial statements and reports for multiple entities
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and internal controls
  • Partner closely with the CFO on financial analysis, reporting, and process improvements
  • Support ongoing systems implementations and upgrades, including a transition to Sage Intacct and enhancements to other financial and operational tools
  • Drive strong task management, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of accuracy

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience
  • Nonprofit (NFP) experience – REQUIRED
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • Experience with Sage Intacct (highly preferred) and Salesforce
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor, coach, and manage performance
  • Experience supporting or leading system implementations is highly desirable
