Interim Assistant Controller (Temp-to-Hire)
Location: Alexandria, VA (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)
Engagement: Interim / Consulting with potential to convert to full-time
Compensation:
- Consulting Rate: $75–$85/hour
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Interim Assistant Controller to support a growing organization in Alexandria, VA. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader with strong government contracting experience who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity with a clear path to permanent employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of 8 accounting professionals, including:
- 3 General Ledger (G/L) accountants
- 5 Accounts Payable (AP – Payables & Travel) staff
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
- Direct and review incurred cost submissions and related supporting documentation
- Ensure compliance with government contracting regulations and internal controls
- Provide leadership, coaching, and workload prioritization for the accounting team
- Partner with internal stakeholders to support audits, reporting, and process improvements
- Leverage Deltek Costpoint for financial reporting, reconciliation, and analysis
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience managing accounting teams, including G/L and AP functions
- Hands-on experience preparing and/or reviewing incurred cost submissions (required)
- Strong background in government contracting accounting
- Deltek Costpoint experience is required
- Ability to work onsite 3 days per week in Alexandria, VA
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to operate at both tactical and strategic levels
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in an interim, consulting, or temp-to-hire accounting role
- CPA or CPA track preferred
- Experience supporting audits and interacting with external auditors
