Cordia Resources is seeking an experienced and mission‑driven
Controller to lead the accounting function and ensure strong financial management across the organization. This role will manage a team of
four accounting staff and oversee all key accounting operations, including month-end close, AP/AR oversight, grant distributions, and preparation of financial statements.
Non-profit industry experience is required. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, mission-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the daily operations of the accounting department, including supervising four staff members
- Oversee and execute the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions and ensure adherence to internal controls
- Oversee grant accounting, including distribution tracking, compliance, and reporting requirements
- Prepare, review, and support the development of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
- Collaborate with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
- Assist with annual audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and strengthen financial controls
- Serve as a strategic partner to program and leadership teams, providing financial insights and analysis
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- Non-profit accounting experience required
- CPA preferred
- Experience with Sage Intacct strongly preferred
- Minimum 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities
- Strong understanding of nonprofit grant accounting, fund accounting, and GAAP
- Proven experience managing accounting teams and improving processes
- Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills
- High proficiency in Excel and familiarity with modern accounting systems
