Real Estate Accounting Manager
Location: Arlington, VA (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)


Overview
A mission‑driven real estate organization is seeking a Real Estate Accounting Manager to support continued growth across a large multifamily and development portfolio. This is a newly created role due to increased operational complexity and portfolio expansion.
The Accounting Manager will play a key leadership role within the accounting function, overseeing property‑level accounting, strengthening financial reporting, and improving processes across multiple projects. The position reports directly to the Controller and partners closely with internal leadership and third‑party property managers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee financial reporting and audit coordination for a large portfolio that includes multifamily real estate assets
  • Review and analyze financial statements prepared by third‑party property management firms
  • Supervise and mentor outsourced property accounting resources, ensuring accuracy and accountability
  • Support cash management activities and onboarding of newly acquired or developed properties
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, lender requirements, and affordable housing regulations (LIHTC, HUD, grants)
  • Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting
  • Lead process improvements to enhance efficiency, controls, and reporting quality

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 7+ years of accounting experience, including 3+ years in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Strong background in real estate accounting
  • Experience working with Yardi or similar real estate accounting systems (MIP a plus)
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and real estate financial reporting
  • CPA preferred; nonprofit or affordable housing experience is a plus
  • Strong Excel skills and ability to analyze complex financial data
