About the Opportunity
We are seeking a hands‑on Interim Accounting Manager/Assistant Controller to support a high‑performing organization during a transitional period that includes a retirement and a summer leadership leave. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, enjoys being in the details, and is confident managing day‑to‑day accounting operations.
The ideal candidate is not looking for a strategic CFO‑level assignment—they are someone who can roll up their sleeves, stabilize processes, ensure accuracy, and keep critical accounting functions running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will provide essential backfill and operational support across the accounting function, including:
Month-End Close & Reconciliations
- Assist with month‑end close activities
- Prepare and review journal entries
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting
AP & Payroll Processing
- Manage high‑volume Accounts Payable
- Process biweekly payroll
- Maintain documentation, accuracy, and compliance
- Provide continuity during peak workload periods
Operational & Team Support
- Shadow and train with existing staff to ensure seamless coverage
- Backfill responsibilities for accounting leadership during leave
- Maintain internal controls and support audit readiness
- Support daily accounting operations as needed
Qualifications
Required
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong hands‑on operational accounting skills (AP, payroll, close)
- Experience completing reconciliations and supporting month‑end close
- Proficiency with accounting systems; NetSuite strongly preferred
- Experience with Concur (expense management), preferred
- Ability to be onsite in Washington, DC 3–4 days per week
