Controller / Director of Accounting Commercial Real Estate | Houston, TX (Hybrid) Compensation: Competitive Base Salary + Bonus Cherry Bekaert Recruiting & Staffing is partnering with a rapidly scaling commercial real estate group to identify a senior accounting leader to support its next phase of growth. This is a hands‑on leadership opportunity within an entrepreneurial, well‑capitalized organization that builds, acquires, and manages commercial properties across the Houston market. The firm currently has foundational accounting support in place and is at a clear inflection point where a rising leader is needed to take ownership of the function and scale it alongside continued deal activity. The Opportunity This role will serve as the senior accounting leader for the business, with ownership of financial reporting and core accounting operations, while partnering closely with leadership on budgeting, analysis, and strategic initiatives. It is well‑suited for a CPA who values proximity to the business and is motivated by the opportunity to expand scope and leadership responsibility as the organization scales. Key Responsibilities
Own monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules
Oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations and manage the Bookkeeper
Handle property‑level accounting, including CAM reconciliations
Partner with banks and lenders on debt reporting, covenants, and compliance
Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
Establish and improve accounting processes as the business grows
Serve as a strategic thought partner to leadership while remaining hands‑on initially
Ideal Background
CPA required
6–12+ of experience (Commercial Real Estate experience highly preferred)
Mix of public and private experience preferred (straight public audit also considered)
Commercial real estate experience strongly preferred; real estate‑adjacent industries acceptable
MRI experience is a plus
Comfortable in small, fast‑growing environments (10–50 employee companies)
