Property Accountant

Overview:
A well-established residential property management organization is seeking a Property Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of a portfolio of affordable housing communities. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who thrives in a structured, compliance-driven environment and enjoys working with complex reconciliations and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow analysis
- Perform bank reconciliations and account reconciliations for assigned properties
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of all financial data in accordance with GAAP
- Assist with year-end audit preparation, including work papers and supporting schedules
- Support HUD REAC submissions and ensure compliance with state and regulatory reporting requirements
- Coordinate with lenders and investors to fulfill reporting obligations
- Track and reconcile escrows, reserves, tenant security deposits, and prepaid balances
- Ensure compliance with HUD and state housing regulations
- Partner with Property and Regional Managers to review budget variances and ensure accurate transaction posting
- Support ongoing financial analysis and reporting needs for assigned portfolio
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2+ years of property accounting experience required
- Experience with Yardi (Voyager/Affordable), RealPage, or OneSite preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and affordable housing accounting requirements
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with HUD 4350.3, REAC reporting, MOR audits, and LIHTC compliance
