SUMMARY: Exciting opportunity to join a growing Accounting & Finance department for a well-established federally qualified health center. The Senior Payroll Accountant will handle reconciliations, invoices, deposits, allocations, preparation for financial audits, and general support with other accounting procedures. The primary focus will include responsibility for payroll processing, and maintaining the overall accuracy, integrity, and completeness of the organization’s payroll system.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Payroll Processing:
Review and identify needed corrections to timesheet entries and PTO requests in payroll system
Responsible for payroll run on the 15th and end of every month
Coordinate with HR on payroll changes and related statutory issues and send notifications to employees as needed
Process payroll changes for the pay period
Perform research and follow up on payroll payment issues
Provide oversight of W2’s administration
Coordinate with Controller on issues that need clarification
Act as Back up to Associate DOF regarding allocation of employee time as applicable to grants
Reconciliations:
Prepare audit reports and payroll reconciliations to match trial balance.
Communicate with auditors regarding prepared documents to explain or justify their content in alignment with statutory requirements.
Work with governmental agencies regarding reconciliation and payment of statutory deductions
Coordinate with benefits specialists to match employee benefits
Prepare accurate and timely quarterly 941 reports.
Other Essential Functions:
Support audits and address all payroll related concerns
Respond to staff questions and challenges related to the payroll system
Provide payroll training and resources to staff and managers as needed and address inquiries
Analyze and provide payroll reports and various cost reports
Oversight of the 403b/5500 audit
Accountable for ensuring the 5500 is reviewed, accurate and filed on time yearly
Interact with 403B broker and resolve any issues
Recommend policy changes to 403B plan
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
3+ years of related experience in payroll processing
Experience with ADP Workforce Now required
Experience with out-of-state hiring and payroll tax enrollment required
Experience with accounting software Sage Intacct preferred
Knowledge of managing retirement plans preferred
Experience managing a 5500 audit and nonprofit grant experience preferred
Experience working in healthcare settings preferred
Ability to maintain confidential information, work independently and exercise independent judgment
Ability to research and develop solutions internally and from issues arising with outside agencies
