We are looking for an exceptional Engineering Manager (Spacecraft Software) to join our client's Space Systems Department. In this role, you will provide personnel and programmatic leadership to a technically focused staff of Directors and manage personnel who design, develop, test, and implement embedded solutions for cutting-edge satellite technology. As an Engineering Manager in the Space Systems Department, you will work with hardware, software, and product-focused teams to impact the development of new technology and drive personal growth for a team of talented engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and guide the Spacecraft Software team within the Space Systems Department, providing personnel and programmatic leadership
- Collaborate with project, product, and technical leads to ensure high-quality and efficient execution
- Foster professional development and career planning for Spacecraft Software engineers
- Manage workload, assignments, support, development, and conflict resolution for team members
- Ensure compliance with legal regulations, security standards, and company policies
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
- Represent team needs and capacity in technical meetings and collaborate with architects to form well-informed solutions
- Utilize agile practices to support sprint planning, track progress, manage and report individual performance
- Interface directly with the VP, Space Systems to coordinate and report on efforts across the Department
- Collaborate with various stakeholders on headcount planning and hiring
- Other professional duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in personnel management
- 3+ years of experience in project management
- 3+ years of experience and/or direct exposure to embedded systems and digital design
- Experience with traditional project management practices and tools, such as critical path analysis, resource loading and MS Project
- Experience with agile project management practices and tools, such as scrum, SAFe and Jira
- Demonstrated ability to develop and support a team of engineers
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic environment
Desired Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in personnel management
- 5+ years of experience in project management
- 5+ years of experience and/or direct exposure to embedded systems and digital design
- Demonstrated expertise in utilizing Jira to manage an engineering team
- Degree in engineering or a related STEM field
- Certifications in PMP (Project Management Professional), CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management), and/or CSM (Certified Scrum Master)
