Overview and Job Description:

•    ~$50M Government Contractor in Northern Virginia that is rapidly growing and PE backed.
•    Controller reports into the VP who I know from their previous company.  This person has a great demeanor, very down to earth, and easy to work with.
•    They are based in Northern Virginia…VERY flexible..can do heavy remote but preference is to be DC metro candidate.  Once a week or 3-4 times a month is fine for in office part or come in as often as you want.  
•    Must have Unanet experience and preference someone who has been through acquisitions/integration or has M&A experience.
•    Manages Accountant and they are going to hire more as they grow.
 
Job Description: We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller. The controller is responsible for managing and overseeing financial accounting, reporting and compliance matters related to the government contracting environment including but not limited to the day-to-day accounting and cash flow maintenance.
 
Position Responsibilities:
•    Serve as the primary point of contact for all accounting matters related to government and commercial (sub-contract) contracts.
•    Ensure compliance with government regulations, including the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) requirements.
•    Perform regular audits of financial records to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance with government regulations and company policies.
•    Lead all accounting functions related to A/R, A/P, Payroll and month-end close. Perform monthly general ledger account analysis and reconciliations (e.g. journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations)
•    Develop and implement strong, consistent internal accounting processes and controls   
•    Create and maintain companywide accounting manual and help align all operations
•    Maintain accounting system (Unanet) to accurately capture, track, and report financial data for government contracts and daily accounting operations.
•    Implement technical accounting to support acquisitions and push down journal entries and integration within Unanet.
•    Advise management about company insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
•    Lead timely completion of annual audit requirements. 
•    Facilitate and support any external audits and tax return preparation; act as liaison with external auditors, bankers, Federal/State representatives, etc. by providing requested documentation and addressing audit findings.
•    Manage requirements for federal and state filing of tax returns.
•    Lead project accounting set up and closeout processes 
•    Co-lead treasury function including administration of all bank accounts and cash needs across businesses. 
•    Assist with M&A projects, as needed, and related accounting integrations.
•    Manage accounting team

Experience Required:
•    Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business with 10+ years government contractor controller/accounting experience. CPA, preferred not required. 
•    Ability to build, develop, manage, and mentor a high performing team.
•    Proficient with Unanet. (timesheets, labor distribution, payroll journals, customer invoicing, vendor payments, vendor employees, etc.)
•    Expert knowledge of GAAP, DCAA, and FAR regulations and requirements.
•    Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting.
•    Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external customers.
•    Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work within a deadline-driven environment.
•    Experience with M&A due diligence, purchase accounting, and integration experience preferred.
•    Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
•    Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to work independently with minimal direction.
•    Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
•    Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
•    Must be a U.S. Citizen.
