Director of Finance

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Finance to lead our financial operations in a mission-driven, nonprofit environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nonprofit financial management, financial reporting, and leadership experience. This role will manage a team of five finance staff, oversee the month-end close process, and lead the annual audit. Experience with Sage Intacct is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

           Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
           Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and donor requirements.
           Manage and mentor a team of five finance professionals, fostering professional development and a collaborative environment.
           Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of financial records.
           Coordinate and manage the annual audit process, working closely with external auditors to ensure successful and timely completion.
           Develop and monitor organizational budgets, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
           Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations, as well as grant and contract requirements.
           Collaborate with senior leadership on financial strategy, risk management, and operational decision-making.
           Oversee cash flow management, internal controls, and financial policies to safeguard assets and ensure financial sustainability.
           Utilize and optimize financial software systems, including Sage Intacct (preferred), to streamline processes and reporting.

Qualifications:

           Required: 5+ years of progressive financial management experience, including management of at least 5 staff.
           Required: Significant experience in nonprofit finance, including managing grants, restricted funds, and donor reporting.
           Required: Strong expertise in financial reporting and compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
           Preferred: Experience with Sage Intacct or similar accounting systems.
           Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to mentor and develop staff.
           Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
           Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
           Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required (Master’s degree or CPA preferred).
