Financial Staff Accountant
About the Role

The financial accounting team serves an important function in ensuring global affiliates transact and their financial records are kept compliant with US GAAP. A successful candidate is self-motivated, independent, detail oriented, and knowledgeable regarding accounting best practices under US GAAP. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in accounting principles and apply their expertise to maintain accurate financial records and effectively support month-end close activities.
 
Responsibilities
This role involves working closely with and supporting the finance team across the following areas:

Financial Accounting
  • Maintain accounting records in accordance with US GAAP, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and documented.
  • Prepare and enter journal entries along with supporting documentation into NetSuite, verifying completeness and accuracy before submission for review and approval.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations, ensuring the accuracy of account balances and researching discrepancies for resolution in a timely manner.
  • Support month-end closing processes, collaborating with Accounting Managers and team members to ensure financial records remain current and deadlines are consistently met.
  • Participate in process improvements, helping refine accounting workflows and documentation to improve efficiency.
Team Support & Contributions
  • Encourage a culture of continuous improvement by proactively identifying opportunities and supporting team members in achieving success.
  • Contribute to company initiatives by assisting with financial projects and operational goals.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally, offer support, and assist with ad hoc requests as needed.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Education & Certification:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
    • US Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred; active pursuit or partial completion required
  • Experience:
    • Public accounting experience required (Big 4 experience is a plus)
    • 2+ years of relevant accounting experience, including public accounting
    • Located in the Washington, D.C. metro area for in-person collaboration as needed
  • Technical Skills:
    • Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite experience is a plus)
    • Strong understanding of US GAAP
    • Skilled in preparing journal entries and reconciling accounts
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency
  • Collaboration & Soft Skills:
    • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and organizational skills with attention to detail
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workloads, and meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy
    • Self-sufficient and proactive, with a strong ability to take initiative and tackle challenges effectively
    • Effective team player with strong collaboration and relationship-building skills
    • Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills
    • Able to adapt quickly to shifting priorities in an evolving environment
