Senior Accountant - Construction

Reston, VA
Cordia Resources is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant with a strong background in construction accounting to join the growing team of one of our top clients. This role plays a critical part in managing the day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring accurate job cost reporting, and supporting financial operations across multiple construction projects.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in job costing, WIP schedules, and progress billing, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure all transactions are accurately recorded in accordance with GAAP
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, job cost reports, and WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules
  • Oversee progress billing, retention tracking, and change order accounting
  • Support project managers with cost tracking and budget variance analysis
  • Review and reconcile subcontractor and vendor invoices for accuracy and compliance with contracts
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual closings
  • Coordinate and support external audits and bank compliance reporting
  • Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting processes, and documentation
  • Monitor and reconcile accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll entries as needed
  • Help implement and improve accounting software and systems as the company scales

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years in construction or project-based accounting
  • Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, job costing, and WIP reporting
  • Experience with AIA billing, retention, and contract compliance
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, Foundation, or QuickBooks)
  • Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills
  • CPA or CPA-track is a plus but not required
