Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) with strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Managed Instance (MI) for a contract-to-hire opportunity. This role is essential in maintaining the performance, integrity, security, and availability of our data infrastructure. The selected candidate will initially join on a contract basis, with the opportunity to convert to a full-time role based on team fit and job performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and support Microsoft SQL Server databases hosted on Azure SQL Managed Instances.
- Perform routine maintenance, including backups, patching, integrity checks, and disaster recovery.
- Monitor database health using built-in tools and third-party performance monitoring solutions.
- Apply performance tuning techniques to optimize indexes, queries, and configurations.
- Implement and enforce database security standards, including authentication, authorization, encryption, and auditing.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, industry regulations, and data governance best practices.
- Design, develop, and maintain T-SQL stored procedures, functions, views, and scripts.
- Participate in peer code reviews to maintain code quality, consistency, and performance.
- Collaborate with development teams to optimize data access patterns and design scalable database objects.
- Support developers in writing efficient queries and troubleshooting performance issues.
- Knowledge of Entity Framework is a plus, especially in bridging application logic with SQL performance considerations.
- Support data pipelines and ETL workflows that interface with Azure Data Lake and Azure Synapse Analytics.
- Contribute to architectural decisions regarding data warehousing and analytics integrations.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a DBA with Microsoft SQL Server.
- Expertise in writing and optimizing T-SQL scripts, stored procedures, and queries.
- Solid understanding of indexing strategies, execution plans, and locking mechanisms.
- Experience in backup/restore strategies, high availability, and disaster recovery.
- Experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, Data Lake Storage Gen2, or other cloud data platform components.
- Understanding of data security best practices in cloud-based environments.
- Exposure to data modeling and BI/reporting tools.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Detail-oriented, with a proactive and ownership-driven mindset.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently.
