We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team of Operations engineers in supporting the build and delivery of Space Flight products for the Space Electronic Systems sector. This role involves providing engineering process support for the manufacturing of electromechanical assemblies tailored for military and space applications. The successful candidate will drive defect reduction, engage in root cause activities, and interact daily with technicians and operators.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering process support to manufacturing, focusing on defect reduction and root cause analysis.
- Conduct data analysis for capacity, throughput, and other performance indicators.
- Recommend and implement process improvements, lean manufacturing techniques, and process flows for production and development programs.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure bench setups/layouts meet productivity demands and safety standards.
- Create detailed work instructions from engineering drawings for accurate assembly, testing, and inspection by technicians.
- Generate, investigate, and document non-conformances; recommend dispositions and supply rework instructions as needed.
- Review new designs for manufacturability and compliance with standards and procedures.
- Support Material Review Board (MRB)/Failure Review Board (FRB) for discrepant material/test failures and determine root cause/corrective actions.
- Ensure timely disposition of discrepant materials and corrections.
- Ability to travel or work off-site as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering.
- Experience in regulated/controlled manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge and experience in root cause and corrective action methodologies.
- Experience with Configuration Management processes.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, ensuring schedules are met.
- Strong prioritization skills to meet commitments.
- Effective communication skills across varying levels of technical expertise.
- Proficiency in technical writing and presentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Space Flight industries.
- Lean/Six Sigma training.
