About the Role Our nonprofit client is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant / Finance Consultant to provide interim support during a transition period. This role is critical in maintaining the accuracy of financial operations and ensuring strong oversight of the organization’s accounting functions.
This is a short-term consulting engagement (2–3 months) with a hybrid work schedule (2–3 days per week in the Washington, DC office).
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the production and accuracy of financial statements
Maintain oversight of the accounting system and internal controls
Lead the development, presentation, and tracking of the annual budget for the Board of Directors
Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing and reporting
Review and approve vendor payments
Manage federal, state, and local tax and administrative filings (IRS, DC, and other jurisdictions)
Oversee banking relationships and effective management of bank accounts
Serve as liaison to the Finance Committee, report regularly on financial operations
Act as principal contact for external audits and coordinate audit processes
Qualifications
CPA designation preferred (or equivalent senior-level accounting/finance experience in nonprofits)
Proven experience in nonprofit or foundation finance and accounting
Strong technical knowledge of GAAP and compliance standards
Prior experience preparing financial statements, budgets, and audit packages
Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central strongly preferred (not required)
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financials to leadership and board committees
Availability to be onsite in Washington, DC 2–3 days per week
