About the Role
Our nonprofit client is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant / Finance Consultant to provide interim support during a transition period. This role is critical in maintaining the accuracy of financial operations and ensuring strong oversight of the organization’s accounting functions.

This is a short-term consulting engagement (2–3 months) with a hybrid work schedule (2–3 days per week in the Washington, DC office).

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the production and accuracy of financial statements
  • Maintain oversight of the accounting system and internal controls
  • Lead the development, presentation, and tracking of the annual budget for the Board of Directors
  • Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing and reporting
  • Review and approve vendor payments
  • Manage federal, state, and local tax and administrative filings (IRS, DC, and other jurisdictions)
  • Oversee banking relationships and effective management of bank accounts
  • Serve as liaison to the Finance Committee, report regularly on financial operations
  • Act as principal contact for external audits and coordinate audit processes

Qualifications
  • CPA designation preferred (or equivalent senior-level accounting/finance experience in nonprofits)
  • Proven experience in nonprofit or foundation finance and accounting
  • Strong technical knowledge of GAAP and compliance standards
  • Prior experience preparing financial statements, budgets, and audit packages
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central strongly preferred (not required)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financials to leadership and board committees
  • Availability to be onsite in Washington, DC 2–3 days per week
