The Manager, Data Engineering will oversee a team of 5–7 data engineers, focusing on career development, team health, and delivery outcomes. This leader will partner with technical leads to align architecture with business strategy and drive excellence in data engineering practices.
Key Responsibilities:
People Leadership (60%)
Mentor and retain top engineering talent
Conduct 1:1s, career planning, and performance reviews
Foster a collaborative and growth-oriented culture
Manage hiring, onboarding, and team dynamics
Technical Partnership (20%)
Align architectural decisions with business goals
Promote high standards in code quality and design
Stay current on emerging data engineering trends
Delivery & Process Management (20%)
Partner with Product Managers to ensure realistic commitments
Lead incident response and post-mortems
Facilitate agile ceremonies and monitor team velocity
Ideal Candidate Profile:
7+ years in engineering, 5+ years in people management
Strong understanding of data engineering concepts
Proven success building and scaling teams
Excellent communicator with high emotional intelligence
Familiarity with big data tools (e.g., Spark, EMR), cloud infrastructure, and technical risk assessment
Preferred Experience:
Background in data-first or analytics-driven organizations
Experience scaling teams from ~5 to 10+ engineers
Success in fast-paced, resource-constrained environments
