Our client is a $2.5 billion services-based government contractor with 7,000 employees worldwide. Their accounting department is growing and adding a Payroll Manager to the team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a stable, growing company and gain executive exposure. The ideal candidate will have prior payroll management experience with a large company, ideally a government contractor, plus prior supervisory experience. Payroll is processed on a bi-weekly basis for hourly and salaried employees in all 50 states. This position reports to the Controller with exposure to a hands-on CFO.

Payroll Manager Responsibilities:

  • Managing all aspects of the payroll process, such as approving transactions, correcting errors and the oversight of 3 direct reports
  • Attending to any payroll-related queries or questions from employees with the mindset that speed and accuracy to resolve mistakes is paramount
  • Keeping updated with labor legislation and changes in employee insurance/tax regulations
  • Ensuring compliance with tax laws and organizational policies, implementing new policies if necessary
  • Maintaining payroll systems and reporting any issues to the executive team
  • Auditing payroll transactions to ensure that accounts, payment dates, and taxes are accurate
  • End of year W2 processing
  • Coordinating with internal & external auditors
  • Creating monthly and annual payroll reports for executive management review
  • Resolving payroll discrepancies quickly and efficiently
  • Creating strategies for the continuous improvement of payroll in general

Payroll Manager Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Human Resource Management
  • Prior payroll and time keeping experience with Deltek Costpoint
  • Three or more years of experience in a supervisory position specifically related to payroll for a large corporation, ideally a government contractor or service-related industry such as consulting
  • Familiarity with labor legislation and federal tax laws
  • Experience with processing payroll in all 50 states
  • The ability to ethically work with employee-sensitive information
  • Excellent communication skills and client/employee service mindset
