Interim Director, External Financial Reporting
Location: Herndon, VA (primarily onsite)
Compensation: $85–$100/hour (market-based)
Employment Type: Interim / Contract

Overview:
A rapidly growing, publicly traded technology organization is seeking an Interim Director of External Financial Reporting to support a critical period of financial reporting and compliance. This role will report directly to the Chief Accounting Officer and play a key leadership role in managing SEC reporting, technical accounting, and consolidations during a high-growth phase, including recent acquisition activity.

This is a hands-on opportunity for a seasoned professional who has led SEC filings end-to-end and can operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities

External Financial Reporting

  • Lead the preparation and filing of SEC submissions, including 10-Q, 10-K, and related disclosures
  • Drive the end-to-end filing process, including timelines, schedules, and coordination across stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations
  • Utilize tools such as Workiva for reporting and XBRL tagging
  • Partner with auditors and internal teams to support quarterly and annual reporting requirements

Technical Accounting

  • Research and resolve complex accounting matters (e.g., revenue recognition, leases, business combinations)
  • Prepare and document technical accounting conclusions and memos
  • Support accounting implications of acquisitions and other transactions

Consolidations & Close

  • Oversee consolidation processes, including intercompany eliminations and reporting
  • Manage a multi-entity environment and ensure accurate financial statement preparation
  • Support integration of newly acquired entities into reporting structure

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required
  • 10+ years of experience, including significant public company SEC reporting experience
  • Proven ability to lead SEC filings, not just support components
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and consolidations
  • Hands-on experience with Workiva and XBRL
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint highly preferred but not required; exposure to system conversions also a plus
