Senior Accountant / Assistant Controller (Private Equity Industry)

Local Northern VA middle-market private equity firm is building out its finance function and is looking for a strong #2 to the CFO.

Chosen candidate will be responsible for working with firm leadership to develop and build out all aspects of the internal accounting and finance function.  Over time, she/he will be exposed to advanced opportunities (with proper growth) maintain fund-level projection models as well as generate other reporting and analysis as required to support our growth.
Role Breakdown:
  • Produce GAAP and regulatory financial statements for each fund
  • Will serve as main point person for contact with external audit and tax professionals
  • Coordinate the day-to-day financial management of funds
  • Leading the accounting work required for capital calls, interest/return calculations
  • Cash management, regulatory filings, and other ad-hoc projects.
  • Preparation of quarterly and annual fund financial statements
  • Coordination and consolidation of investment valuations
  • Management of audit process and timely support of external auditors
  • Compliance with tax filing requirements (using outside preparers)
  • Preparation of regulatory filings and related compliance reporting
  • Calculation, distribution and tracking of capital calls
  • Calculation of income allocations and distributions in accordance with the waterfall mechanics outlined in the funds’ partnership agreements
  • Interest and management fee calculation and portfolio company invoicing
  • Management of fund cash flows and balances, execution of transfers and wires, compliance with credit facility requirements, and forecasting cash sources/uses
  • Responding to investor requests
  • Assistance in the fundraising process
  • Fund-level budgeting, forecasting, and performance tracking (gross/net IRR, MOIC, levered and unlevered returns)
  • Special projects alongside the leadership team
Desired Experience & Credentials:
  • CPA is highly preferred
  • Ideally, 3-6 years of experience in corporate or public accounting
  • Private Equity, Venture Capital, Asset Management or Financial Services industry experience is preferred
  • Public accounting is highly preferred
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Office/365 applications
  • Build collegial working relationships as a liaison across diverse teams of internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work on tight timelines in a dynamic environment
  • Self-motivation, confidence, and long-term leadership potential
Compensation & Culture:
  • $100,000 - $125,000 depending on experience
