Our long-time client is a fast growing, $500M Property Management Company, located in the Northern VA area. Over the last 40 years the company has specialized in acquisition, development, management, leasing, financing and disposition of investment properties throughout the Washington D.C. metro area and has many more exciting projects upcoming in the pipeline.

They’re seeking an Accounting Manager who will play a vital role on their cohesive accounting team and will report directly to Assistant Controller. This is a great opportunity for career advancement and work/life balance. The ideal candidate is a Senior Accounting level candidate with problem-solving skills and excellent interpersonal skills.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Oversee new property set-up in the accounting system
  • Develop working relationships with residential client contacts, Regional Managers and field personnel
  • Ensure that residential management fees are calculated in accordance with contract
  • Ensure that accounting staff provides good customer service to external clients and internal customers
  • Review residential financial statements and investigate variances
  • Prepare schedules and work with Assistant Controller to oversee client assistance for annual audits
  • Review replacement reserve reimbursement requests prepared by staff
  • Oversee accountants in the preparation of sales tax returns
  • Ensure that critical deadlines are met for mortgage payments, utilities and other key payables to avoid late fees and penalties
  • Analyze balance sheet accounts and review reconciliations prepared by staff
  • Supervise AP Clerks including review of check registers, approval of void checks and stop payments, and adherence to AP policies and deadlines
  • Supervise Property Accountants in processing of security deposit refunds, NSFs, cash receipts and adherence to AR policies and deadlines
  • Manage cash to avoid overdrafts and maintain sufficient working capital
  • Assist in annual budget process
  • Management of AP/AR staff including hiring, training, evaluation and daily supervision
  • Other ad hoc requests and special projects as assigned by Controller and Assistant Controller

Qualification and Education Requirements:
Minimum of 2-4 years progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years supervising staff accountants. Candidates must have hands on experience managing staff in a full-service property management accounting environment, including AP, AR and month end close. Knowledge of Jenark Access Property Management, or Yardi software is preferred. Candidate must have an undergraduate degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
