Cordia is partnered with a premier steel/metal fabrication and installation company who is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to oversee general accounting operations by controlling and verifying their financial transactions.
Senior Accountant responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures. A successful Senior Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. The ideal candidate has also experience collaborating and/or managing a team of Accountants and Junior Accountants. Senior Accountant duties also include ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all of our accounting tasks. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, who is just as comfortable working autonomously as with a team. This candidate should be corporate culture-focused, bringing enthusiasm to the office and offering up new ideas and programs.
The candidate will be expected to perform the following responsibilities:
ACCOUNTING RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the accounting operations of the company
Communicate routinely with Project Managers on a variety of job-related topics including bonding, insurance, and contract agreements.
Maintains construction budgets for all aspects of the project life cycle. Completes various forecasting and analysis to ensure accuracy and completeness of job cost reports. Assists construction managers in effectively managing project budgets, billings, and cash flow forecasts.
Accurately and timely manages all assigned cash accounts. Performs monthly bank reconciliations, wire transfers, deposits, and other payment processes to ensure vendors are paid in a timely manner. Effectively works with construction teams to accurately forecast cash needs.
Acts as liaison to internal and external auditors by explaining journal entries and financial transactions. Provides research data and information as requested and answering questions necessary to complete the audit in a timely manner.
Participate in the formation and implementation of company financial plans.
Preparation of all monthly financial reports.
Work with outside accounting/financial firms on monthly close-out procedures
Provide reporting and budgeting as required by Senior Management.
Manage company and project cash flow.
Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable staff and functions.
Demonstrates management and leadership skills while training and supervising new staff including interns. Effectively communicates to accounting staff on areas of improvement within current procedures and helps to develop SOP for new processes.
Work with project management staff ensuring proper compliance with accounting procedures including reviewing and analyzing job cost estimates and reports monthly.
Develop written accounting procedures for the operations staff and work with the team to ensure proper implementation and compliance.
Applies generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to compile and analyze financial information into various financial statements and accounting reports. Makes appropriate journal entries in the general ledger by checking calculations, reviewing the basis for figures, and balancing and reconciling figures.
STRATEGIC INITIATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Creating new accounting/operations procedures to prepare and manage rapidly growing entity and the evolving business structure.
Develop and maintain relationships with key partners including banks, vendors, clients, etc. that will support and grow the business
Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Must be a strong and organized leader with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are also required. Specific requirements include:
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting and/or finance required
3 to 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
Experience in job cost accounting and financial reporting
2 to 4 years of Construction Management or General Contractor/Subcontractor industry experience
Understanding of commercial insurance policies required
