Project Engineer

Our client is looking for a Project Engineer to oversee the technical aspects of a program and take charge of daily execution. The engineer will ensure that cost, schedule, and technical requirements are maintained to deliver products and services to the customer. The customer program requires software and hardware integration, testing, and demonstrations to meet mission requirements. The associated test program anticipates annual, episodic software-hardware integration tests and system ground/flight tests at test deployment locations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary customer-facing technical interface representing our client, operating semi-autonomously in a customer environment with minimal direction
  • Coordinate with the program manager to drive day-to-day execution while maintaining program cost and schedule
  • Provide technical insight and recommendations to the program manager and senior engineering leadership
  • Brief the customer at periodic events and technical interchange meetings
  • Participates in more extensive Engineering organizational processes and technical standards

Open Mission Systems Architecting and Engineering Suppot

  • Conduct expert analysis and provide recommendations to the customer on integrating software, architecture, and generated artifacts to inform design and artifact generation further
  • Perform engineering trades to facilitate future platform instantiations with open architectures and define a rigorous and repeatable integration process.
  • Serve as a key stakeholder in Engineering, MBSE, and MS&A Integrated Product Teams to anticipate and plan for future platform instantiation.
  • Document integration methods, processes, and tools to facilitate hosting on future non-specific sensor mission systems and aircraft
  • Generate customer deliverables such as integration and test plans, procedures, and report.
  • At the architecture level, provide expert analysis and recommendations on compliance and interoperability of the customer’s Government Reference Architectures (GRA) with other current and future GRAs.

Platform Instantiation Support

  • Participate in IPTs and provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) to enable accelerated software instantiations on existing and in-development unmanned aerial systems (UAS). This involves supporting cross-service operations, sponsor/acquisition-community teaming efforts, and formulating requirements to guide and accelerate UAS instantiation

Direct Experimentation Support

  • Participate in on-site integration of software and hardware components to achieve functional software and hardware systems in Software / Hardware Integration Labs (SIL/HIL) and ground and flight test environments
  • Interacted with the customer Test and Evaluation (T&E) IPT and provided SME analysis and inputs to the test rep
  • Support documenting processes and tools to inform future instantiations (program-level integrations on future transition partners).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another related STEM field (will consider years of related experience in lieu of degree).
  • 5+ years of experience in defense/DOD.
  • Experience integrating HW and SW systems in lab settings and field environments.
  • Practical experience and understanding of Kubernetes, Red Hat Linux, and DevSecOps.
  • Understanding integration methods, processes, and tools for hosting sensor mission systems and aircraft.
  • Strong technical knowledge and proficiency in relevant software tools: requirement analysis tools, CI/CD pipelines, Agile management tools, and test management tools.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and quality control procedures.
  • Familiarity with Open Architecture Standards (e.g., FACE, OMS)
  • Knowledge of modeling methodologies (e.g., SysML, UML, DoDAF).
  • Familiar with hardware interfaces (e.g., 1553, serial).
  • Familiar with software interfaces (e.g., STANAG 4586, FACE TSS, OMS CAL).
  • Familiar with configuring networks (e.g., VLANs, SDN).
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
