Senior Accountant

Our client is growing Government Contractor ($10M in Rev, 20+ locations nationally) with a nimble, dynamic operation focused on training warfighters and agents for performance optimization. They are seeking a direct hire, Senior Accountant for their Sterling, VA headquarters. The role will report to and support the Senior Accounting Manager and will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organizations assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. Senior Accountant Responsibilities:
  • Prepare journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations
  • Assist with the preparation of various financial reports, financial statements and other accounting schedules as well as perform basic analysis
  • Record cash receipts daily
  • Answer accounting and financial questions by researching data and interpreting it accurately
  • Balance multiple tasks and maintain close attention to detail
  • Assist with month end close and preparation of forecasts and reports
  • Assist with preparations for the annual audit, tax returns and other corporate reporting requirements
  • Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices for government contractors
  • Make recommendations to improve processes, create efficiencies and standardize business practices. Document and implement approved recommendations, striving for increased efficiency and cost reduction
  • Maintain confidentiality with financial and other sensitive company information
  • Perform traditional general accounting functions such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll analysis, general ledger and month end closings
  • Maintain the control of disbursements, expenses, tax payments, and income
  • Correspond with other departments to ensure proper accounting for revenue, purchases, and expenses
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related business field
  • 3-6 years of accounting experience, preferably in a Government Contracting environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting practices including US GAAP
  • Understanding of Deltek software and various modules, preferably Deltek GCS Premier preferred
  • Must have the ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced environment
  • This position requires the ability to maintain an excellent level of customer service.
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact across all levels of the organization.
