Controller/Lead Accountant

This position will give you the opportunity to use your accounting and bookkeeping skills in a diverse and growing industry that involves construction, real estate, investments and more.
Position Scope and Breakdown:
  • Manage and reconcile all accounting for general contracting business plus 3 sub-companies
  • Prepare general ledgers and adjusting journal entries for residential and commercial properties
  • Review all general ledger entries for accuracy
  • Maintain chart of accounts
  • Concise explanations of unusual financial statement variances
  • Record and reconcile all inter-company transactions on a monthly basis
  • Record all receipts from purchases to their proper classification
  • Monitor and analyze all monthly expenses providing explanations of unusual items
  • Reconcile balance sheets and bank statements for operations and investment accounts
  • Assist in closing the books for year-end
  • Monitor receipt processing of residential communities
  • Process write-offs, security deposits, and refunds in a timely manner
  • Monitor community entries – assist with improvements (reducing errors)
  • Produce accurate and timely financial statements for communities
  • Ensure monthly utility and rent deduct entries are reviewed and posted
  • File payables and obtain approval for bills in a timely manner
  • Process and maintain all payments on time
  • Review and process invoices as well as check requests; sort, organize and set invoices up for payment
  • Review weekly time sheets for laborers and set up their weekly payments
  • Correspond with vendors and respond to all billing inquiries (and discrepancies) and maintain vendor files
  • Maintain and periodically review all vendor W9 forms and COI documents for use in preparing year-end 1099 reporting and audits
  • Review vendor contracts to schedule appropriate payments
  • Monitors transactions throughout accounts
  • Assist property managers with any bookkeeping related work
  • Contributes to the team’s effort by accomplishing tasks and assisting with projects as needed.
Desired Education & Experience:
  • Minimum of four (4) years of bookkeeping experience is a MUST
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • 2+ years of QuickBooks Online experience is a MUST
  • Construction, Development or Homebuilding industry is strongly preferred
  • Spanish fluency is preferred but not required
  • Proficient in MS Excel required
  • HR and payroll experience are preferred
  • Proficient analytical skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to be a self-starter, demonstrate teamwork, dependability, be a great communicator, maintain and respect confidentiality, be honest
