HR Business Partner

The Human Resources (HR) Business Partner guides and manages human resources services, policies, and programs for the company. The HR Business Partner provides both strategic and hands-on expertise and support to the Director of HR, the HR Department and all levels of management across stores and central store support. In this position, it is extremely important to be able to develop strong working relationships to enhance and achieve company and department goals and objectives. This is a mid-level position, located in our Headquarters office (Rockville, MD).

Essential Functions:
  • Serves as subject matter expert and provides guidance to employees/managers/HR team on human resource related topics
  • Train and manage the HR store support employees
  • Handles employee relations issues (up to and including terminations) and handles escalations appropriately
  • Conduct Stay interviews with store leadership and employees and present data in a timely and easy to understand format
  • Assist with answering employee/manager questions
  • Administers various human resources plans and procedures for all company personnel
  • Reviews and analyzes data to identify trends in employee engagement
  • Participates in Employee Life and Diversity and Inclusion initiatives
  • Establishes and maintains department records and reports related to progressive discipline cases, terminations, grievances and employee incidents
  • Monitors the performance evaluation program and revises as necessary
  • Participate in labor relations, legal compliance and training on behalf of the company
  • Conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind resignations
  • Ensures all employee relations tickets/emails/questions are being handled appropriately and resolved in a timely manner
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws
  • Files EEO-1 annually; maintains other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations
  • Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems
  • Evaluates department initiatives, recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in human resource management, business administration or related field and 5 years’ related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 2 years in a management/supervisory role
  • Ability to think strategically, provide direction, manage multiple projects and execute in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to diagnose and support data-driven decision-making
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills; ability to create and deliver briefings to leaders/management/employees
  • Excellent attention to detail, especially with communication (written and verbal) and meeting deadlines
  • Interpersonal skills to handle sensitive situations and confidential information
  • Ability to adapt to frequent changing environment
  • Strong interest in company culture

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • 10 years’ work experience
  • 3+ years in a management/supervisory role
  • Fluency in Spanish (oral and written)
  • Professional in Human Resource Certification (PHR) or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP)
  • Experience with Dayforce HRIS
