Assistant Controller

Overview:
Our client is a Reston, VA-based highly dynamic, $50M Government Contractor focused in the cyber security and physical security fields.  The company is private equity backed and are currently on track for $100M in revenue within the next three years with an acquisition focused business plan. Upcoming projects/initiatives include migrating to Deltek Costpoint, bringing in more cost-plus contracts, and building out the accounting/finance team to support further acquisitions.
The company is currently looking for an entrepreneurial, driven Assistant Controller who can handle both daily operational accounting areas and assist with business operations as they scale. The Assistant Controller will report to the Controller and join a team of 7-8 staff in Accounting and Finance, which after a period of time they will help manage and lead. The ideal candidate has experience within PE backed/multi-entity organizations, hands-on accounting experience, and top-notch communication skills. The company operates on a hybrid work schedule.
Salary target is $120,000-140,000 and the company policy required COVID vaccination.

Responsibilities:
  • Review and approve business unit transactions before they are recorded in the general ledger, including Timesheets, Labor cost, A/P, Billing, and Payroll
  • Reconcile G/L accounts and review G/L account reconciliations prepared by others
  • Take ownership of the business unit general ledger
  • Ensure that business unit transactions are recorded in a timely, accuracy, and complete manner
  • Prepare business unit financial statements
  • Interact effectively with Corporate and business unit finance staff (A/P, Billing, Payroll), supply chain staff, contracts and legal, human resources and compliance
  • Prepare, manage, monitor, review and update as required, Standard Operating Procedures for finance functions
  • Interact with internal and external auditors

Qualifications:
  • 7 years of Government Contractor finance experience
  • 3 years of hands-on experience using Deltek Costpoint
  • Experience at a private equity Government Contractor multi company is preferred
  • Some hands-on experience using Microsoft Dynamics and QuickBooks is preferred
  • Strong Excel skills, proficiency with complex models and financial analytics
  • 7 years of Government Contractor finance experience, with 5 years as a Sr. Accountant, required
  • 3 years of hands-on experience using Deltek CostPoint, required
  • Prior program control and project EAC/ETC experience is a plus
  • College degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • CPA or CPA candidate is preferred
