Great opportunity for an Accounting Manager to grow into a Controller level role. The ideal candidate will have prior supervisor experience (currently a staff of 2 to supervise) along with the ability to interact with the executive team.
Our client is a minority owned government contractor looking to add a
Controller to the accounting team. Excellent opportunity to oversee staff and the day-to-day operations of the accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, ledger maintenance, revenue, and asset accounting as well as associated financial planning, analysis, and reporting.
CPA is a plus. Position reports to the CFO.
Controller responsibilities:
- Supervise accounting and payroll staff members.
- Oversee the completion of the monthly accounting close process, including calculating, posting and verification of financial data for use in maintaining accounting and statistical records.
- Manage all treasury functions including managing cash inflows, outflows and maintaining a rolling 13-week cash forecast.
- Responsible for the general ledger ensuring the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconcile subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.
- Compile financial data and prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports.
- Work with the CFO to establish the annual operating plan and report on monthly and year-to-date variances to that plan.
- Analyze current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to predict future revenues and expenses.
- Oversight of annual financial statement audit process.
- Track department milestones and goals while adhering to approved budgets.
- Develops and implements accounting processes and procedures to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of team's operations.
- Develop and document accounting- related processes to ensure alignment with industry standards and regulations including using external resources to research accounting principles for proper GAAP accounting treatment.
Controller Requirements:
- CPA desired not required
- Bachelors’ degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP accounting practices.
- Supervisory and government contracting experience
