Company Overview:
Our client is a $50M service focused Nonprofit (501c3) based in the Centreville/Chantilly, VA area. The accounting/finance operation is extremely well run with clean audits and strong, tenured colleagues (10+ on team).  The organization operates on a hybrid work schedule (two days in office, three days remote) with great balance.

Role Summary:
The company is currently seeking a sensible, and operationally minded Controller. The position will report directly to the CFO, manage a team of four direct reports, and oversee all daily accounting/finance operations and compliance for the organization. The role is open due to the previous Controller finding a role closer to home (all positive transition). The ideal candidate has a CPA, strong nonprofit industry experience (larger size), and has managed a team of 2-4 staff previously.
Salary target is $130,000-150,000.

Responsibilities:
  • Direct and manage general ledger, payroll, payables, billing, receivables, and property accounting.
  • Direct and manage the preparation of internal and external financial reports to support the organizations strategic and operating decision-making.
  • Provide technical leadership, development plans, counsel, review and selection of accounting team.  
  • Supervise the accounting staff with four direct reporting managers and others as needed.
  • Manage and lead annual financial, 403(b) HUD and Medicaid audits and cost report preparation, 990 and 1099 preparation
  • Collaborate with others in the organization to improve performance and processes. Take an inclusive approach to decision making and information sharing.
  • Functional ownership of the accounting systems.
  • Review and improve as necessary accounting process ensuring compliance with GAAP for not-for-profit entities and Medicaid regulations.
  • Responsible for development, implementation and verification of internal controls
  • Interact with internal customers and external vendors to resolve issues and improve the operation.  
  • Direct and manage the documentation of accounting policies and procedures
  • Manage the annual budget process and support various ad-hoc projects and business cases.

Qualifications:
  • BS degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA, required
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant work experience, including some managerial experience
  • Exhibit a high degree of attention to detail and encourage the same from accounting staff members
  • Experience with Medicaid reimbursements and an electronic health record system, or equivalent, preferred
