Controller Role Summary:
The company is seeking a Controller to oversee daily accounting and finance operations. The role will oversee 2+ staff, be responsible for financial statements, DCAA incurred cost submissions, AP/AR, general ledger duties, and more. The ideal profile including govcon industry knowledge from companies $50M or more in revenue, experience building teams, and someone who can operate within a shifting environment.
Expect a target salary range of $150-165K for the permanent role.

Company Overview:
Our client is a rapidly scaling Government Contractor focused on technical engineering with plans to grow organically and by acquisitions. The company has operations around the US, revenue around $30M, and an excellent, visionary management/C-Suite team. The company currently has a small accounting/finance team with set plans to bolster the group. The organization operates on a hybrid work schedule.
The company HQ is in Alexandria and the Controller can work on a hybrid basis from that office, but must be willing to make an occasional trip to office in California, MD.
Controller Responsibilities:
- Responsible for Corporate Accounting policies and procedures; to ensure timely, accurate and reliable financial information
- Direct responsibility for financial reporting, general ledger, payroll, time charging, billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, DCAA compliance and the integrity of the accounting records and accounting system
- Responsible for the daily oversight of the accounting area and the monthly general ledger closing to include recruiting, training and developing staff
- Coordinate the annual financial review with external auditors
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to improve processes, costs controls and allow for successful audits
- Responsible for Government compliance filings with DCAA, to include submission for incurred cost proposal and indirect provisional billing rates
- Manage DCAA audits and correspondence to include the Pre and Post Accounting System audits and the Incurred Costs audits
- Responsible for the cash management to include banking relationship, reporting, cash flow projections and review of the bank statement
- Assist human resources with health and benefit programs by providing financial strategies and reconciliation of benefit accounts
Controller Qualifications:
- Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) Part 31- Contract Cost Principals and Procedures, Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) payroll regulations
- Experience with various contract types (CPFF, T&M, FFP, etc.)
- Merger & Acquisition experience a plus
- Experience with pricing proposals, both building them and analysis of submitted proposals
- Experience with DCAA Audits and Incurrent Cost Submissions
