POSITION SUMMARY: Exciting opportunity to join the leadership team of a rapidly growing public company. This Accounting Manager position will report to the Assistant Controller and will work closely with other Corporate Accounting team members, including the Controller, the Asset Management team, and the Acquisitions team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the property accounting team and property accounting close, including reviewing journal entries, bank reconciliations and supporting schedules.
Analyze property-level financial results for accuracy through review of general ledger account details and variances and provide oral and written analysis explanations to the executive leadership team.
Review and approve property budgets and related leasing forecasts and capital budgets, by working closely with the Asset Management team.
Engage early on property acquisitions and support the onboarding process, including reviewing leases, recording the acquisition, and reviewing the asset setup in accounting system.
Review and approve CAM reconciliations, reviewing against expectations and explaining variances.
Coordinate closely with Asset Management to keep the executive leadership team apprised of projects and events that could have a financial impact (capital repairs and lease amendments).
Identify and implement efficiency improvements for all processes above.
Provide financial leadership as a business partner to the Asset Management team.
Take a significant role addressing auditor questions in the quarterly review and annual audit processes, including SOX testing.
Provide oversight for the property-level bank accounts to ensure efficient cash management and regular, timely sweeps.
Prepare property-related information to be contained in SEC filings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience is required
8+ years of related and relevant work experience demonstrating hands on involvement in all aspects of the financial close processes is required
3+ years of supervisory experience is preferred
CPA or CPA candidate preferred
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles is required
Sarbanes Oxley implementation and compliance experience is preferred
Commercial Real Estate experience preferred
Superior communication skills (both oral and written) are required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Advanced Excel), and Yardi, MRI or similar accounting systems
Strong work ethic, attention to detail, proven ability to meet deadlines, the ability to work independently, and skill in reviewing others’ work are all required
