Title: Construction Accountant
Location: Remote (occasional travel to Baltimore required)
Hourly Rate: $30.00 - $40.00/hour
Job Type: Contract (2-3 Months)

Opportunity Summary

The Construction Accountant will be responsible for overseeing full-cycle accounting and monthly close activities, including credit card reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting. You will also play a crucial role in project accounting and job costing, tracking expenses, analyzing costs, and providing valuable insights to project managers for effective decision-making. Additionally, you will handle invoice processing, draw requests, and ensure compliance with work orders and accounting regulations specific to the construction industry. Working closely with project managers and executives, you will provide vital support in billing, financial reporting, and project profitability analysis. Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform credit card and bank reconciliations and assist with other administrative duties as required.

  • Create weekly/monthly report via MS Excel and close each month with supporting workpaper support and roll forwards

  • Track project expenses, analyze costs, and ensure accurate financial reporting.

  • Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to monitor project budgets, identify potential cost overruns, and provide proactive recommendations for cost control.

  • Prepare detailed financial reports for each project, including percentage of completion analysis, variance analysis, and cash flow projections.

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations related to construction industry-specific accounting practices.

  • Create Invoice processing every two weeks, prepare draw requests and create project-related billings.

  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of WO, accounting principles, and AIA regulations.

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations related to construction industry-specific accounting practices.

  • Works closely with the Project Manager and Executives to ensure accurate and consistent billing and financial reporting.

  • Participate in cross-training activities to acquire knowledge in different areas, such as billing and accounts payable, allowing you to provide coverage and support when needed.

  • Thoroughly review and understand owner contract to ensure all terms and conditions and tax requirements are met.

  • Reviews requisitions in accordance with contract and inclusive of all billable company, trade/subcontractor, and sub consultant costs

  • Ensures that trades and subcontractors follow requisition format and required submission of support documentation and review subcontractor waivers of lien documents.

  • Confirms receipt of compliant insurance documents

  • Maintains complete project files, including trades, subs, and vendors for the entire duration of the project.

  • Provides an analysis of over and under billed projects monthly and investigates project cost variances.

  • Work with Project Managers to forecast the profitability of projects monthly.

  • Monitor accounts receivable status with the Project Manager.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or another analytical discipline or its equivalent

  • 1-2 years Construction Accounting or relevant business experience including some exposure to large scale or ground up construction projects.

  • Knowledge of accounting principles, general business practices and financial statements

  • Advanced proficiency with MS Excel, BuilderTrend and PowerPoint; Proficiency with Smartsheet and AppFolio is a plus (ability to quickly get up to speed on these platforms is essential)

  • Knowledge and experience using QuickBooks (2 years)

  • Knowledge of the construction industry processes, terminology, and accounting practices.

  • Knowledge and experience working with the construction draw process.

  • Knowledge of how to process client billings properly and efficiently, subcontractor payables, waivers, and AIA documents.

  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • A passionate, organized, creative, and highly motivated person with the ability to learn and work independently and collaboratively.

  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal, and written communication skills.
