Title: Controller, GovCon Compensation: 130K – 150K Environment: Hybrid - Arlington, VA Industry: Government Contracting
Position Overview:The Controller will primarily oversee the “day to day” finance and accounting activities to include reporting, month-end-close, payroll, banking, indirect rates and other ad hoc items. The Controller will work closely with the leadership team and the CFO in proposal pricing, financial analysis, strategy, and compliance. Successful applicants will possess government contracting experience, an exceptional work ethic, prior experience as a Controller, an extremely high level of attention to detail, and demonstrated experience collaborating with others across all disciplines of a corporate environment.
Manage and execute all accounting functions including A/R, A/P, expense reports, and payroll in a Unanet accounting system.
Perform monthly close including preparing monthly financial statements, supporting schedules, analyses, reconciliations, and invoices to clients.
Validate timesheets, as required, with Operations and Prime contractor systems.
Prepare operational analysis metrics, analyze indirect expenses, identify and explain variances, and make recommendations for improvements.
Establish and maintain strong accounting controls sufficient to ensure compliance with applicable government contractor regulations.
Responsible for developing and maintaining annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
Ensure compliance with General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Contracting vehicle Compliance (GSA, CIO-SP3), Federal Acquisition (FAR) regulations and other regulatory requirements including those governing federal procurements.
Implement and enhance systems to further automate processes for efficiencies and effectiveness while maintaining internal controls and adhering to government regulatory compliance.
Oversee annual external audit of financial statements, managing the end-to-end audit process.
Coordinate quarterly tax filings and payments and preparation of final returns.
Work under the direct supervision of the CFO.
Required Experience/Skills
Four-year degree with a major in accounting or equivalent experience.
Five or more years of experience as a Controller with a strong attention to detail in the federal market.
Strong experience with Unanet or Costpoint accounting system preferred (not required).
Strong problem solving and analysis skills.
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across functions in a fast paced and changing environment.
Knowledge of MS Office Suite with an expertise in Excel.
Knowledge of federal and state regulations, government contracting/DCAA requirements, and US GAAP.
Ability to uphold and demonstrate the highest level of integrity in all situations and recognize standards required by a federal contractor.
