Financial Systems Manager

Our client is a Chicago-based firm seeking a Financial Systems Manager who will play a pivotal role in our accounting department. We are looking for a self-starter and an innovative thinker to help take LP to the next level. In this position, the right candidate will have the opportunity to directly impact our business, working closely with firm leadership, attorneys, and accounting, marketing, and IT teams to transform data into actionable insights, guiding critical business decisions.  
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and oversee the organization's financial systems and keep the database updated.
  • Operate and manage financial systems such as Aderant and Sierra export platform, ensuring data integrity and system efficiency.
  • Create clear understanding reports and communicate findings effectively to senior leadership to provide actionable insights for business improvement.
  • Recommend solutions that will further enhance the firm's competitive edge.
  • Spearhead autonomous projects for both internal and client-facing needs.
  • Build relationships with attorneys and understand business and client needs.
  • Support finance/accounting staff in managing financial system data/report requests.
  • Leverage project management experience to lead a variety of financial system initiatives.
  • Translate gaps in the legal and business processes to potential analytics opportunities via ad hoc projects. 
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and functions that will streamline current and future data management and reporting for the business.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry and business trends through communication with professional organizations, publicly available data sources, internal resources, and other informed individuals. Actively research new trends and dynamics; identify market dynamics that may affect the various departments served.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Economics, Accounting, Finance, or Computer and Information Science required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience with managing financial systems in the legal industry.
  • A proven and successful understanding of interpreting business needs and drawing insights from raw data, KPIs and other performance-based metrics.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience presenting to senior leadership.
  • Experience in project management for research.
  • High proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and advanced analysis modules.
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, and the ability to exercise excellent discretion and judgment when dealing with confidential information.
  • General understanding of SQL and working knowledge of SSRS.
  • Advanced experience working with various reporting and analytical platforms and tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of billing and accounting processes.
  • Ability to design new revenue streams and improve existing financial processes through analysis and research.
 Preferred Qualifications (but not necessary):
  • Degree or emphasis in a technical area such as Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Programming is preferred.
  • Experience with other financial systems and tools used in the legal industry such as, Concur, InTapp, iTimekeep, or Laurel.
  • Technical proficiency in databases and modeling/programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, R or similar is a plus.
