Title: Financial Reporting Manager
Location: Hybrid – Virginia Beach, VA
Salary Range: $125,000 - $140,000 + bonus
Job Type: Full Time / Permanent

The Financial Reporting Manager is responsible for accurate financial consolidation and the coordination and the compilation of the consolidated financial statements of our client as well as all other periodic financial filings with the SEC. The Financial Reporting Manager interfaces with the entire accounting function to ensure the completeness and accuracy of financial information and holds the primary responsibility for researching technical accounting questions as well as supporting the Director of Accounting in managing our client’s accounting policies in support of the comprehensive accounting function. The Financial Reporting Manager also ensures timely, complete, and accurate recording of books and records attributable to corporate level activities as part of the accounting close and reporting cycle, including our client’s debt and derivatives portfolio and real estate financing segment activity.
Responsibilities
  • Leads the Financial Reporting team who prepares the financial reporting requirements in any SEC filings, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, registration statements, Section 16 filings, and other filings as needed.
  • Leads the consolidation process, including compiling the consolidated balance sheets and income statements, combining results from ViewPoint and Yardi trial balances. Includes review of eliminating consolidation entries.
  • Ensures compliance with all SEC, FASB, and NYSE rules and regulations.
  • Drafts quarterly and annual reports on Forms 10-Q and 10-K, including financial statements, notes to financial statements, management’s discussion & analysis, and all other required SEC disclosures. Incorporates feedback from internal reviewers, external auditors, and external SEC legal counsel.
  • Coordinates the filing of the annual proxy statement, additional related proxy filings, and holding the annual meeting with internal stakeholders, external SEC legal counsel, and the Company’s transfer agent.
  • Manages XBRL tagging in SEC filings, ensuring accuracy.
  • Performs accounting research to determine the proper financial accounting treatment of significant and/or unusual transactions relating to construction, development, acquisitions, leases, joint ventures, real estate financing investment activities, and equity transactions including share-based payments.
  • Drafts and manages accounting policies for various accounting areas, including implementation guidance and examples.
  • Leads the Company’s transaction log process through coordination with key personnel to ensure its completeness and accuracy. This includes review and consideration of business agreements and structures to include, but not limited to, hedging agreements, mezzanine and preferred equity agreements, JV agreements, and operating agreements as they relate to GAAP accounting.
  • Supervises accountants in ensuring complete, accurate, and timely recordkeeping for the accounting close.
  • Leads the derivative accounting process and coordinate with external accounting specialists to ensure proper accounting treatment for interest rate hedging activities.
  • Reviews the quarterly impairment analyses and evaluate the quarterly CECL provision for the real estate financing investment portfolio.
  • Maintains the Company’s related party listing.
  • Serves as resident technical expert and provide accounting guidance for transactions contemplated and executed by executive management.
  • Enacts additional projects to increase the efficiency of the managed accounting and reporting functions.
  • Monitors departmental spending and maintain the department budget, coordinating with the Director of Accounting.
  • Facilitates goal setting at the department level and individual level for the team.

Minimum Acceptance Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or similar field of study.
  • CPA or CPA candidate.
  • 5+ years’ accounting experience in public accounting and/or industry.
  • Understanding of US GAAP accounting and disclosure requirements.
  • Experience reviewing and/or drafting SEC Forms 10-Q and 10-K.

Additional Qualifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to deliver quality financial information within strict reporting deadlines.
  • Ability to identify important transaction details and identify relevant accounting guidance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 application suite.
  • Knowledge of ViewPoint and/or Yardi accounting software a plus.
  • Knowledge of Workiva financial reporting software a plus.
