  • They are starting to insource a large part of their back office/accounting operations from an outsourced firm they have been using.  Now they are bringing Fixed Assets in house.

  • We are working with The VP of Accounting-SUPER nice, tons of industry experience, and great demeanor.

  • They need and want a Fixed Accountant who knows depreciation accounting, PP&E, working with projects in construction and or leases, and who wants to liaise with different departments and external auditors.

  • This job gives the candidate great exposure to other areas of accounting/groups, so it is an exciting position.

  • They are using Sage Intacct and Great Plains for their accounting software packages.  Anyone with experience with either or both is a nice plus to have as they continue to integrate.

Job Title:         Fixed Asset Accountant

Position Summary:
Support the VP of accounting in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance/Accounting department.  Maintain and control the General Ledger (G/L) accounts and business transactions of the organization, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) which includes analytical work and thorough review of financial records.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Weekly review of PP&E and Repairs and Maintenance invoices/transactions to ensure proper accounting treatment and adherence to Company’s capital expenditure (CAPEX) policy

  • Prepare fixed asset upload templates (to Sage) from review of invoices/transactions from general ledger

  • Maintain fixed assets subsystem/depreciation calculation in accordance with GAAP

  • Run depreciation calculations in Sage and prepare journal entries from reports

  • Record asset transfers and disposals in Sage and prepare journal entries from reports

  • Prepare and review general ledger entries for all PP&E related activity (i.e., asset transfers and disposals, impairments, G/L account corrections)

  • Review Construction in Progress detail and balances to ensure assets are placed in service when projects are completed

  • Work with lease accounting team to ensure proper useful lives for all assets

  • Reconciliation of fixed assets subsystem to G/L monthly

  • Prepare PP&E rollforward schedules (monthly, quarterly and annually)

  • Prepare and distribute capital spending reports monthly

  • Work with development, construction and facilities teams for updates on capital projects

  • Create fixed asset related audit schedules, and collaborate with auditors on their assignments/requests

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Strong knowledge of and experience in Fixed Assets and General Ledger

  • Strong proficiency in Excel

  • Microsoft Great Plains General Ledger experience preferred

  • Strong ability to apply several accounting and reporting systems

  • Team player who can effectively collaborate with other teams, internal as well as external to the organization

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and good record keeping

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with ability to clearly communicate issues to all levels of management


Software Platforms Utilized:

  • Microsoft Great Plains Dynamics – Accounting Software

  • Sage Fixed Assets – Premier Depreciation

  • Fexa - Facilities Management Software

  • Lucernex – Lease Administration and Accounting for Real Estate Software


Education/Experience

  • Education:                                Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance

  • Licenses/Certifications: CPA or CPA track preferred

  • Experience:                              2 – 5 years of accounting/finance in restaurant or retail    environment preferred
