Job Opportunity: Senior Project Accountant (Finance)

Salary: $100,000 - $125,000 annually (plus small discretionary bonus)

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Project Accountant to join the finance team, supporting projects within the construction sector. This role is crucial in ensuring accurate financial management.  You will collaborate closely with project managers, operations, and senior leadership to maintain contract compliance, financial accuracy, and forecasting.

Key Responsibilities:
•    Oversee full-cycle accounting for multiple construction projects, including job setup, budgeting, billing, and closeout.
•    Prepare and review monthly forecast worksheets and WIP (Work-In-Progress) schedules, ensuring accurate revenue recognition.
•    Lead the monthly forecasting process for project revenue, costs, and margins in collaboration with project managers.
•    Monitor budgets, cost-to-complete, and margin analysis with project teams.
•    Ensure timely collection of accounts receivable and resolve billing disputes.
•    Serve as a financial liaison between the finance team and project teams.
•    Review and process AIA billings, change orders, subcontractor pay applications, and direct costs.
•    Accurately record and classify project-related costs, including labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses.
•    Monitor contract compliance, including lien waivers, insurance, certified payroll, and retention.
•    Reconcile job costs, identify variances, and investigate discrepancies.
•    Support month-end close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations related to job cost and revenue.
•    Assist with audit requests, lender reporting, and bonding requirements.
•    Provide guidance and mentorship to junior project accountants or AP/AR staff.
•    Ensure adherence to internal controls and company policies.
•    Assist in system upgrades, ERP integrations, and report automation.

Qualifications:
•    5+ years of construction accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a project accounting role.
•    Strong understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP schedules, and forecasting.
•    Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage 300 CRE/Timberline, Foundation, Procore, or equivalent).
•    Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and data analysis.
•    Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and communication skills.
•    Self-starter, capable of working independently and managing multiple projects and deadlines.
•    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required (CPA or CMA a plus).
•    Experience in multi-entity and intercompany accounting.
•    Familiarity with union labor reporting and prevailing wage projects.
