Accounting Manager – General Ledger Operations
Location:  Emporia, VA
Job Type: Full-Time / Permanent

Position Overview:
The Accounting Manager will oversee a variety of accounting duties, including month-end close, financial reporting and analysis, general ledger maintenance, local tax filings, and support for Accounts Payable data entry. This role supports the Controller in financial reporting and analysis.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage monthly financial close transactions, including assigned balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations, journal entries, and accruals
  • Provide accounts payable support in coordination with the Accounts Payable Specialist
  • Oversee full-cycle payroll processing and labor reconciliations using third-party payroll providers (e.g., Paylocity/ADP)
  • Prepare month-end reconciliations for bank accounts, fixed assets, inventory, prepaid expenses, and other asset and liability accounts
  • Post journal entries for asset, liability, and income statement accounts as required
  • Assist with financial reporting and schedules as requested by management and operations
  • Prepare monthly financial statement reporting, budget variance analysis, and commentary in coordination with company executives
  • Complete various tax filings, including sales and use, personal property, excise, and gross receipts
  • Assist in resolving tax notices and conduct research as needed
  • Provide accounting support for ongoing projects in conjunction with GAAP compliance
  • Assist with documentation for independent audits and support auditors as necessary
  • Preferred experience with defense contract compliance
  • Perform other duties as required
Requirements:
  • 5–7+ years of prior accounting experience with a federal contractor
  • Production and manufacturing experience preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Experience with costing and analyzing COGS consumption preferred
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office, accounting software, and databases
  • BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, or Business from an accredited institution
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills; ability to interpret and communicate financial information
  • Team-oriented and flexible; able to work closely with all levels of management
  • Focus on business process improvement to drive deployment of world-class processes
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proactive nature to embed process improvement and collaborate with other functions
