Payroll Specialist Location: Rockville, MD Job Type: Full-Time / Permanent Position Overview:
The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for overseeing the accurate and timely processing of payroll for a growing workforce. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, maintains payroll records, and acts as a point of contact for employee payroll inquiries. The Payroll Specialist will collaborate closely with HR to manage onboarding and offboarding processes, utilize payroll software for complex calculations and reporting, and contribute to the development and implementation of payroll procedures. Key Responsibilities:
Process payroll for a diverse workforce on a weekly and bi-weekly basis
Maintain accurate payroll records for all employees, including hours worked, deductions, and benefits
Calculate and process payroll adjustments, including bonuses, overtime, and retroactive pay
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations
Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll issues, deductions, taxes, and benefits
Collaborate with HR to ensure accurate employee data and onboarding information is entered into the payroll system
Generate and submit payroll reports to management and external agencies as needed
Requirements:
1–3 years of experience as a Payroll Specialist or in a similar payroll processing and administration role
Knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, and compliance requirements
Experience handling certified payroll and union benefits reporting
Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Excel; experience with Foundations or similar systems is a plus
Strong analytical skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism
