We have your next career opportunity available! Our client is looking for a Director of Accounting for a direct hire/ full-time opportunity currently located in Washington, D.C. The primary purpose of this position is to lead the preparation of accounting records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), identification of opportunities for automation and integration of financial systems, while maintaining a satisfactory set of internal controls.
Director of Accounting Responsibilities:
Ensure accounts, ledgers and reports comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements.
Ensure proper segregation of duties and compliance with internal controls.
Ensure the monthly close is completed timely and accurately.
Oversee journal entry process and book journal entries, as necessary.
Assist with the preparation of reports for accurate and timely dissemination of financial management information including, but not limited to, internal monthly reports, external financial statements, and annual/projection budgets.
Complete the monthly reconciliations of the investment portfolio and attend the quarterly meetings.
Responsible for managing the annual audit process and working directly with the outside auditors, including creation of work papers/schedules and all necessary support documentation.
Oversees the activities of the Accounts Receivable function to ensure the accurate and timely management of all Accounts Receivable components including billings, and cash receipts applications
Oversees the activities of the Accounts Payable function to verify that payables comply with company policy and are processed in a timely manner.
Assist with the maintenance of the chart of accounts.
Provide financial analysis (as needed) to evaluate new company ventures or special projects, including leases and capital investments.
Serve as point of contact for commercial banking relationships.
Assure accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns. This includes 990, 990T, DC-10, and sales and use returns. Ensure compliance with state and federal government for reporting requirements and tax filings.
Participate in a variety of special projects and other duties as assigned.
Director of Accounting Requirements:
Strong general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, income tax and banking working knowledge.
Problem solving – individual identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. The ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and cloud-based Accounting Software Systems, preferably Intacct.
Management skills – individual includes staff in planning, decision-making, and process improvement; makes self-available to staff; provides regular performance feedback and develops subordinates’ skills and encourages growth.
Exceptional communications skills, both written and verbal.
Judgment – individual displays willingness to make decisions, exhibits sound and accurate judgment and makes timely decisions.
Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent years of experience.
CPA certification highly preferred.
7 plus years of hands-on accounting related work experience with at least 3 years as a supervisor.
