Our client, a Service-disabled, veteran-owned small business that provides professional education and consulting services to government (federal, state and local) and industry partners seeks a Director of Accounting to be a hands-on leader to manage all day to day accounting operations and supervising an experienced team of two.  The company has been in existence for over 45 years and is positioned for significant growth under new ownership. 

This person will be required to work in the office especially during the first 6 months (Prince William County).  Must be a US Citizen.

Salary range is $90-110K.

Manage all accounting for a small business that provides training courses to federal, state, and local businesses. The candidate will be responsible for the management of the company finances and all accounting processes except for year-end tax returns.  You will report directly to the CEO.
Duties to include:
  • Banking reconciliations, deposits, checks
  • Posting bi-weekly payroll and reconciling to 941’s (they use ADP)
  • Create and post Journal entries as needed
  • Maintain chart of accounts
  • Perform annual year end closing
  • File local business licenses, and property tax and file and report SCC annual renewal.
  • Regularly review all financial operations with owners
  • Assist officers in key decision making and improving company finance positions
  • Analyze company insurance and workman’s compensation including annual audit
  • Report GSA funding fee and participate in assessments
  • Set up company to do business in various states as required
  • Assist in HR duties to include maintaining employee records, analyzing benefits, insurance and salary tracking
  • Supervise staff of two: an Accounts Payable specialist and Accounts Receivable specialist
  • Assuming certain administrative responsibilities to assist the CEO with the overall management of the company
  • Proactively communicating with other staff on status of projects and assistance needed

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent
  • Min or 5 yrs management experience
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks Desktop
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Understanding of GAAP accrual basis accounting and Cost Accounting Standards
