The Finance Director maximizes the return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems; ensures legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions; and oversees all cost and general accounting functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures.
Protects assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls.
Maximizes return and limits risk on cash by minimizing cash balances and making appropriate investment recommendations to the CFO.
Provides status of financial condition of the organization by collecting, interpreting and reporting key financial data.
Ensures compliance with federal, state and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation and regulations, consulting with outside advisors and filing financial reports. Advises management of actions and potential risks associated with compliance issues.
Manages organizational financial audits and tax filings as required and appropriate.
Manages organizational and unrestricted budgets and controls expenses effectively.
Manages payroll functions, including processing new hires and terminations, assisting with benefit administration, and filing of retirement contributions.
Hires, trains, develops and appraises staff effectively.
Oversees office maintenance and works with building management. Skills/Education/ Experience
Demonstrated skills in a computerized accounting environment, including writing financial reports.
Knowledge of nonprofit accounting systems and state and federal financial compliance requirements for nonprofit agencies.
Demonstrated skills in preparing for and managing annual external audits, to include compliance with Uniform Guidance.
Demonstrated knowledge of grants management, including federal grants and contracts.
Proficiency with all aspects of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and oral/written skills.
Excellent organizational, writing, and communication skills; attention to detail, and strong analytical skills.
Ability to balance multiple assignments, working with a number of policy and program managers.
Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships with staff and diverse constituencies.
