Cordia Resources by Cherry Bekaert is partnered with a federal government contractor who is seeking an Accountant to join their team on a contract to hire or direct hire basis. This role executes four main areas of the financial aspects including balance sheet reconciliation, sales tax (research and compliance), month end journaling and inter-office accounting T&E ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in cost accounting processes. This position demands a high level of confidentiality, attention to detail, and compliance with relevant regulations. Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Set up all projects, revenue, and billing in the Project Module.
  • Maintain all MODs in Deltek CostPoint.
  • File monthly Sales and Use Taxes, plus needed research and overall compliance
  • Monthly bank reconciliation.
  • Assist in month-end close processes, including reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, working closely with the accounting team but directly with Director of Finance for a timely and accurate month end reporting.
  • Responsible for preparing and submitting financial reports as specifically required by government contracts, ex. Incurred Cost Submissions (ICS) and other contract-specific financial disclosures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, FAR/DFAR and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and company policies, staying abreast of changes and updates that may impact financial reporting.     
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance accounting processes and internal controls to streamline operations, improve efficiency, ensure compliance and mitigate financial risks.
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments, including project management, procurement, and operations, to ensure alignment of financial objectives and effective communication of financial performance.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, providing documentation, explanations, and support as needed to ensure successful audit outcomes.
  • Other Duties: Other duties assigned within reason of current role previously specified.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field;
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting.
  • Deltek Costpoint experience is required.
  • Understanding of US GAAP and government contracting regulations (DFAR, FAR, CAS).
  • Knowledge of federal financial reporting requirements and processes including DCAA audits.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across functional teams.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
