Title: Staff Accountant
Location: Hybrid - Arlington, VA
Hourly Rate: $35.00/hour
Job Type: Contract / Contract to Hire
Reporting to the Manager, Finance & Accounting, the Staff Accountant will perform and oversee a wide range of accounting duties that include, but are not limited to, accounts receivable, accounts payable, reconciling accounts, performing month-end and year-end closing functions, depositing checks, and processing and coding invoices.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Process accounts payable and manage vendor documentation
- Record the credit card transactions and ensure the backups are valid
- Assist with recording revenue and accounts receivable transactions
- Depositing and recording the paper checks
- Prepare and record day-to-day and month-end journal entries
- Reconcile the balance sheet accounts, including investments, cash, receivables, payables, deferred revenue, prepaids, fixed assets, etc.
- Liaise with vendors on issues related to payables and vendor credits
- Liaise with membership and other departments on issues related to revenue and receivables
- Assist with preparation and coordination of the year-end close, preparing audit schedules and IRS Form 990
- Support the annual budget and mid-year re-forecasting processes
- Ensure the GL, payables, and receivables are in compliance with GAAP
- Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures
- Assist manager with special projects and analyses
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- A thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Experience with Sage Intacct or similar accounting database, Bill.com, cloud-based expense systems
- Experience with Salesforce, and relational databases is preferred
- Strong MS Excel[KL1] [KL2] skills and MS Outlook proficiency
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including correct use of grammar, editing and proofreading skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating with all levels within an organization
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including focused listening skills
- Abilities to:
- Manage multiple deliverables in a dynamic environment
- Meet regular deadlines and reprioritize quickly
- Effectively work and collaborate in a hybrid environment using Teams, Zoom or other collaboration software
- Handle highly sensitive information diplomatically and maintain confidentiality

- Work collaboratively with outsourced accounting resources to complete work in a timely, accurate and efficient manner
