Job Title: Interim Accounting Manager
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer / Director of Finance

Job Summary:

We are seeking an Interim Accounting Manager for a non-profit organization to provide leadership and support during a transitional period. The Interim Accounting Manager will oversee the day-to-day financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies. This role involves managing the accounting team, overseeing financial reporting, assisting with audits, and supporting strategic financial planning efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management & Oversight:

    • Manage all aspects of the organization’s general ledger, ensuring timely and accurate financial entries.
    • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management functions.
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other applicable regulations specific to the non-profit sector.
    • Review and approve reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close processes.
  • Financial Reporting:

    • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
    • Support the preparation of detailed financial reports for leadership, board meetings, and external stakeholders.
    • Monitor budget performance and variance analysis, providing insights to senior management.
  • Audit & Compliance:

    • Lead and coordinate audit preparation, including gathering required documentation and responding to audit requests.
    • Ensure compliance with grant, donor, or regulatory reporting requirements.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in non-profit accounting standards (if applicable).
  • Team Leadership & Development:

    • Supervise, mentor, and train accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient working environment.
    • Evaluate internal controls and recommend improvements as necessary.
    • Assist with the recruitment and onboarding of a permanent Accounting Manager.
  • Strategic Planning & Advisory:

    • Partner with senior leadership to develop and implement financial policies and procedures.
    • Provide strategic input into long-term financial planning, funding strategies, and cost control initiatives.
    • Assist in financial forecasting and budgeting processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Experience in non-profit or higher education finance preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Banner) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
