Property Accountant
Washington, DCWe are seeking a dedicated and experienced Property Accountant to join our team at the staff or senior level. This role is integral to the management of financial operations related to property and/or development accounting. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in accounting, strong task management skills, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities while maintaining a customer-focused approach.
Position Title: Property Accountant (Staff/Senior Level)
Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000 (commensurate with experience)
Experience Required: 5+ years of property and/or development accounting experience
Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
Software Proficiency Preferred: Experience with MRI or Yardi software is highly desirable
Responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day accounting operations for assigned properties or development projects.
Prepare, analyze, and maintain accurate financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
Process and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
Perform general ledger reconciliations and maintain supporting schedules.
Collaborate with property management and development teams to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and applicable regulations.
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes.
Support year-end audits and liaise with external auditors as needed.
Continuously improve processes and contribute to system optimization efforts.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant property and/or development accounting experience.
Proficiency with MRI or Yardi software is highly preferred.
Strong organizational and task management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively.
Adaptability to changing priorities and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Exceptional customer service skills and a team-oriented mindset.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
